A Farm Boy grocery store in Toronto has been shut down after a failed food safety inspection.
The store, located just south of Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue, was written up for four infractions, including ones that posed an “immediate health hazard,” according to the DineSafe report.
DineSafe is a food safety program run by Toronto Public Health that inspects all businesses in the city that serve or prepare food.
The City of Toronto found two crucial infractions at the Farm Boy for failing to protect food from contamination and maintaining the store in a way that could allow health hazards, particularly rodents. The store also had a significant infraction of failing to protect against the “harbouring of pests” and a minor one for failing to keep a food handling room sanitary.
Since January 2024, the same Farm Boy location has received conditional passes during three inspections and passed another four, including one as recently as July in which no infractions were found.
The Star reached out to Farm Boy for comment, but did not receive a reply.
