The Ontario Provincial Police is now offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in a case involving an elderly Eastern Ontario man who has been listed as a missing person for seven years.

A news release dated Aug. 1 said Robert Lambert of Montague Township, near Smiths Falls, had last been seen in July 2018. He was reported missing to the OPP’s Lanark County detachment on Nov. 30 of that same year.

There has been no trace of Lambert since then, according to police. Then 75 years of age, he required assistance to travel and medication on a regular basis.

Investigators were told in 2018 that he had travelled to the United States, but there was no record of him crossing the border, police added.

The news release said the OPP’s Criminal Investigation Branch was overseeing the investigation by the Lanark County OPP Crime Unit “as foul play cannot be ruled out in the disappearance.”

Lambert was described as standing six feet three inches (191 centimetres) tall with a medium build, white hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information about his disappearance or whereabouts was asked to contact the Lanark County OPP Crime Unit at 1-888-310-1122. Alternatively, anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 or online at ontariocrimestoppers.ca.

The $50,000 reward is provided by the Ontario government based on a funding request from the OPP.
