Wednesday’s French-language federal leaders’ debate has been moved two hours earlier to 6 p.m. to avoid a direct face off with a potentially crucial hockey game for the Montreal Canadiens.
The new time slot comes as the NDP’s Jagmeet Singh and Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet both suggested rescheduling the debate, with Singh saying in a statement that Quebecers were being asked “to choose between a critical democratic debate and cheering on the Habs in a must-win game.”
“This kind of political discussion shouldn’t compete with something that means so much to so many,” the statement read.

When and where to watch the federal leaders debates
Leading up to the April 28 election, the federal leaders of the country’s five major political parties will have two debates: One in French and one in English.
The French language debate is set to begin at 6 p.m. tonight — a time change to avoid a scheduling conflict with the Montreal Canadiens’ game as they face off against the Carolina Hurricanes at 7 p.m.
The Star’s polling suggests the Liberals are maintaining a lead over the Conservatives as parties get ready for the home stretch.
