Remember that only Easter Friday, April 18, is officially a statutory holiday in Ontario. That means government offices, banks and malls are closed.
But, while Easter Monday is not a stat provincially, it’s still recognized as a holiday federally and municipally, so services such as the Ottawa Public Library and Canada Post, won’t be open.
The trick is, as usual, to check ahead of time to possibly save a trip.
With that caveat in mind, here’s what’s open and closed for Easter Weekend:
Shopping malls, grocery stores, and more
- All malls are closed Good Friday and Easter Sunday. But the malls will be open Saturday and Monday.
- All grocery stores will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday, but will be open Saturday and Easter Monday.
- LCBO and Beer Store locations are closed Good Friday and Easter Sunday, but will be open Saturday.
OC Transpo
- On Good Friday, buses and O-Train lines 1, 2 and 4 will run on a Sunday schedule.On Monday, buses and O-Train Line 1 will be on a reduced weekday schedule. O-Train Lines 2 and 4 will be on a normal weekday schedule.
- Bus and O-Train lines will be on normal schedules on Saturday and Sunday.

- For Para Transpo, all regular bookings and recurring trips will be automatically cancelled for Friday and Monday will be automatically cancelled.
City of Ottawa municipal client service centres
- The City’s 3-1-1 Contact Centre will be open for urgent matters only.
- ServiceOttawa Client Services and provincial offences counters will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday.
- The Business Licensing Centre at 735 Industrial Ave. is closed Friday and Monday.
- The Spay and Neuter Clinic at 26 Concourse Gate will be closed Friday and Monday.
- Ottawa employment and social services offices will be closed on Friday and Monday.
Garbage and recycling
- There will be no curbside green bin, recycling, garbage or bulky item collection on Friday or Monday. Friday’s pickup will take place on Saturday. Monday’s pickup will be made on Tuesday. All other collection will be delayed by one day for the rest of the week.
- There will be no collections of multi-residential recycling containers, bulky items and green bins on Friday and Monday.
- The Trail Waste Facility Landfill will be open on Friday and Monday
Other municipal services
- Municipal child care centres are closed Friday and Monday
- Public Library branches are closed Friday and Monday
- Many community centres and recreation facilities will have altered hours, closures and changes to drop-in schedule
- City-operated museums, Meridian Theatres at Centrepointe, and Shenkman Arts Centre will be closed on Friday and Monday.
Museums
- Canadian Museum of Nature is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
- Canada Agriculture and Food Museum is open all weekend. Advance tickets are required for Easter at the farm.
- Canada Science and Technology Museum is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
- Canada Aviation and Space Museum is open all weekend.
- Canadian War Museum is open all weekend.
- Canadian Museum of History is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
- National Gallery of Canada will be open all weekend, including Good Friday and Easter Monday.
- Ottawa Art Gallery will be open on Saturday and Sunday.
- The Diefenbunker is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
- The City of Ottawa Archives and Gallery 112 at the James Bartleman Centre will be closed on Friday and Monday.
- The Barbara Ann Scott Gallery, the Karsh-Masson Gallery, and the City Hall Art Gallery will be closed on Friday and Monday.
Mail delivery
There will be no mail delivery from Canada Post on Good Friday and Easter Monday.
