WINNIPEG – Tempers flared at the Manitoba legislature as the Opposition Progressive Conservatives questioned the NDP government about a public contract.
The Tories pointed to a recent $10,000 mental therapy contract between a service provider and the Finance department.
In Question Period, Tory Greg Nesbitt suggested the spending may have been for the personal benefit of Finance Minister Adrien Sala.
That prompted some New Democrats to label the question as inappropriate, leading to shouts in the chamber and the legislature speaker trying to restore order.
NDP house leader Nahanni Fontaine later told reporters the contract is for workers who have been searching the Prairie Green landfill for the remains of murdered First Nations women.
Fontaine says the Tory questioning was out of line, while the Tories say they were simply asking questions about public spending.
