A 22-year-old man faces a long list of charges after he was spotted by provincial police travelling at more than twice the legal speed limit on Road 38 near Syndenham, north of Kingston.
Police said the driver was spotted by a Frontenac OPP patrol officer at about 1 a.m. A radar reading indicated the car was travelling at 178 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
The officer conducted a traffic stop where the driver allegedly exhibited signs of alcohol use.
The driver was arrested after a roadside breath test, and he was taken to the local OPP detachment for further breath testing.
A search of the vehicle found open liquor and cannabis.
The driver faces half a dozen charges related to impaired driving and other offences.
In addition, the man’s license was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
He was released from custody and is to appear in court in Kingston on June 10.
