WNBA star Angel Reese and former NBA legend Magic Johnson are using their star power to teach financial literacy to high school seniors in Baltimore.
According to Because Of Them We Can, in late April, Reese, 23, and Johnson, 65, teamed up to launch “Wealth Playbook,” a financial literacy course tailored for high school seniors in Baltimore. The course, which debuted at Saint Frances Academy, will teach students about how to manage their money and build wealth for the future over four sessions.
In a May 5 Instagram post, Pull Up Neighbors—a marketing and advertising firm—highlighted the first “Wealth Playbook” session at Saint Frances Academy, presented in collaboration with Merrill Lynch. The event was filled with energy and purpose as students explored essential topics like budgeting, credit, and financial empowerment. Pull Up Neighbors is also partnering with Reese and Johnson to help drive the program forward.
The WNBA Star is an alumnus of Saint Frances Academy.
According to Biography, Reese earned a scholarship to attend Saint Frances Academy, an independent Catholic high school in Baltimore. It was there that she honed her skills, developed her drive, and began her journey to the top of the basketball world. Her growth on and off the court eventually led to her being selected as the 7th overall pick by the Chicago Sky in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
Angel Reese’s connection to her alma mater runs deep. In 2023, she gave back in a meaningful way by donating $12,000 to Saint Frances Academy to help cover tuition for players on the girls’ basketball team, mirroring the support she once received herself. That same year, she launched her own foundation, which is committed to empowering young women and underserved communities through mentorship, education, and opportunity.
Johnson has transformed his NBA legacy into a powerful force for philanthropy.

Meanwhile, NBA legend Magic Johnson remains a pillar of Black excellence, both in sports and in community investment. Over his 13-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers, Johnson captured five NBA championships and earned three MVP and three Finals MVP titles. Yet his impact off the court may be even more profound.
Since 1991, the Magic Johnson Foundation has been a force for change, focused on improving access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunity in urban, ethnically diverse communities. Per Do Good LA, through programs that break down cultural barriers, promote social and economic equity, and raise awareness around issues like HIV/AIDS, the Foundation continues to drive community revitalization and uplift the next generation.
