A 34-year-old man who had been fishing in the Mississippi River near the Appleton dam is dead after being reported missing Saturday.
Members of the Lanark County OPP detachment responded to a call about the missing man shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday. He had been fishing while standing in the water wearing hip waders and was reported to have gone under and not resurfaced, police said in a news release.
“Extensive surface searches were conducted throughout the evening using drones and specialized units,” the release stated.
His body was located Monday morning by the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit.
