The province’s police oversight group, the Special Investigations Unit, is investigating a collision that seriously injured two people in Ottawa’s east end Thursday night.
In a release, the agency said that “preliminary information” indicated that the incident began at about 6:20 p.m. when an Ontario Provincial Police officer attempted to stop the driver of a black car for speeding on Highway 417.
The SIU said the driver failed to stop and a short time later,
the driver of the car struck a pole on Star Top Road, between Innes and Algoma roads.
Both the male driver, age 35, and female passenger, age 22, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The man remains in hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.
Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
