Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement as wildfire smoke hovered over the nation’s capital Monday morning.

“Smoke from forest fires over northern Ontario is causing poor air quality and reduced visibilities,” an advisory from the agency said.

Residents are advised to limit their time outdoors and consider reducing or rescheduling any outdoor sports, activities and events. The air quality is expected to improve throughout the day.

Environment Canada also issued an advisory early Monday morning, reminding the public of the ongoing heat warning in the region.

The city can expect daytime highs of 32 C, which will feel like 40 C with the humidity. Overnight temperatures will provide little relief, with a high of 23 C.

“Southern Ontario will experience hot and humid conditions now through much of this week,” the advisory read. ” A shift in the weather pattern late this week will likely end this multi-day period of heat and humidity Thursday night.”
