Fire crews stage midnight rescue of kayaker in Shirley’s Bay

Ottawa Fire Service crews were called late Friday night to pull in a kayaker in distress on the Ottawa River in the Shirley’s Bay area.

Arriving at the

intersection of Shirley Boulevard and Rifle Road, the rescue teams saw the kayaker was about 1.7 km offshore after having been on the water for three hours and was unable to get back.

The rescue socialists launched a watercraft. The kayaker flashed their cellphone lights to guide the team.

The kayaker and kayak were loaded onto the rescue boat and brought back to shore at about midnight.

No injuries were reported.
