The weather outlook is sunny and hot for the long weekend, and Environment Canada has confirmed the expected arrival of wildfire smoke starting later Saturday and through Sunday’s Ottawa Ironman competition.
The federal agency sent an alert Saturday, cautioning “local smoke” could be an issue over the next two days.
So far, the air quality health index outlook is for “5-moderate risk” through the day Saturday, rising to a “6-moderate risk” Saturday night and on Sunday.
The forecast predicts a high Saturday of 27 C, with the humidex making it feel like 30. Some clouds are expected Sunday night, with a low of 15 C.
Sunday’s forecast is for hot, humid conditions with a high of 30 C, and the humidex calculation making it feel like 33.
But while the forecast is sunny, there’s also a caution for “local smoke in the morning and early in the afternoon.”
For Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, the outlook is for highs of around 29 C, with some cloud.
So far, no precipitation is expected.
