Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for much of Ontario and Eastern Ontario over the next five days beginning Saturday.
The weather office is forecasting daytime highs of 30-33 C, with humidex conditions making the highs feel like 35 to 40. Overnight lows are expected to be 19-23 C.
Environment Canada recommends checking on older adults, those living alone and other at-risk people in-person or on the phone “multiple times a day.”
Early signs of heat exhaustion may include headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine and intense fatigue. It’s recommended that you stop your activity and drink water.
“Heat stroke is a medical emergency! Call 9-1-1 or your emergency health provider if you, or someone around you, is showing signs of heat stroke,” the agency said.
Drink water often and before you feel thirsty.
Close blinds or shades and open windows if outside is cooler than inside.
Turn on air conditioning, use fans or move to cooler areas of your living space. If your living space is hot, move to a cool public space such as a cooling centre, community centre, library or shaded park.
