A “system outage” that affected WestJet customers’ flights to and from Toronto’s Pearson airport and other airports across the country on Tuesday morning has now been resolved, the airlines says, though delays may persist into the afternoon.
Pearson warned WestJet customers of the delays on X earlier in the morning, adding that there were disruptions to both departing and arriving flights. “Please check your flight status before travelling to the airport,” the post read.
Ottawa’s international airport took to social media warning customers, citing “network-wide technical issues” as the cause.
Customers took to the platform with frustration over delays at airports in Calgary and Halifax as well.
“Several Canadian airports are currently experiencing disruptions due to a technical issue affecting @WestJet,” the Canadian Airports Council posted.
“WestJet experienced a temporary system outage that delayed the handover of aircraft from maintenance personnel for scheduled operation,” the airline said in an email to the Star.
Pearson updated customers around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, saying that WestJet’s outage had been solved but was continuing to urge customers to check the status of their flight.
On Tuesday, WestJet said that personal data, including travelers’ documents, was stolen in a cyberattack earlier this year. The airline, however, noted that no credit or debit card information was taken in the attack.
