Ottawa firefighters quickly deal with basement fire on Borthwick Avenue

Ottawa firefighters quickly put out a fire Saturday evening in the basement of a row housing end unit on Borthwick Avenue.

took multiple 911 calls at 6:52 p.m., with callers reporting that smoke and flames were visible in the basement of the unit.

Upon arrival at the scene, in the 900 block of Borthwick, crews confirmed there was smoke in the basement and a “fast attack” was started, with a hose line advanced into the building. Firefighters were able to contain the fire before it spread.

The fire was declared under control by 7:08 p.m.

Two full searches of the structure were conducted and no occupants were found inside.

An Ottawa fire investigator was sent to the location to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
