Large police presence at Landowne Park after gunshots reported

Police remained in the area of Lansdowne Park Friday evening after responding to report of gunshots at about 4:20 p.m.

“A large police presence remains in the area as officers continue to search for the suspect, who is still outstanding,” said police.

There were no reports of injuries.

As of 7 p.m. on Friday night, there had been no arrests, said police, who confirmed that the incident was “at or around” the music festival YowFest.

In a post on Instagram, YowFest said festival events for Friday had been delayed “while we address on onsite issue.”

Later, YowFest organizers said Friday events had been cancelled.

“Unfortunately, we are unable to move forward with Day 1 of the festival. Your safety and experience are our top priority, and we’ll provide updates regarding next steps shortly. Thank you for your understanding.”

According to the TD Place website, YowFest is a

multicultural music festival celebrating the diverse linguistic and artistic tapestry of Canada.

Friday was the first day of the two-day festival which “
serves as a platform for Canadian artists, both English and French-speaking, as well as international artists from various backgrounds,” according to organizers. 

The music was scheduled to start at 5 p.m. Among the artists scheduled to appear on Friday was former prime minister

Justin Trudeau’s son Xavier, known under the artist name Xav

. He released his debut R&B single, “Til The Nights Done,” in early 2025 and was scheduled to appear at YowFest 8:52 p.m. on Friday.
