Woman injured in jump from second floor in south Ottawa townhouse fire

A woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries after jumping from a second-floor window to escape a

fire

at a townhouse on Mesange Drive near Albion Road on Thursday morning.

Ottawa firefighters were alerted to the fire by several 911 calls at about 4:24 a.m.

Teams arriving at the scene confirmed a unit was “fully involved” and a second alarm was issued.

While crews began fighting the fire, others began searching the structure for any occupants.

No one was found, but it was later learned that a woman jumped from a second-floor window to escape. Paramedics treated the victim and transported her to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A second person suffered from smoke inhalation and was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

An OC Transpo bus was dispatched to the scene to provide shelter for the residents.

The fire was declared to be under control at 5:04 a.m.

An investigator was dispatched to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
