TORONTO – Strength in financial stocks helped lift Canada’s main stock index in late-morning trading on Thursday, while U.S. markets also rose.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 150.15 points at 29,329.54.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 525.67 points at 46,016.59. The S&P 500 index was up 44.65 points at 6,576.69, while the Nasdaq composite was up 131.28 points at 22,017.34.
The Canadian dollar traded for 72.23 cents US compared with 72.18 cents US on Wednesday.
The October crude oil contract was down US$1.21 at US$62.46 per barrel.
The December gold contract was down US$11.10 at US$3,670.90 an ounce.
