Don’t know where to eat in Ottawa? Let Citizen restaurant critic Peter Hum be your concierge

Earlier this month when I was out and about at

yet another restaurant

, I wound up chatting with a man and a woman waiting for their Vietnamese subs to be made.

My cover, if it even exists anymore, was blown, and they put this question to me: “Is there a good place to go in Ottawa’s west end for seafood?”

After 13 years as the Ottawa Citizen’s

restaurant critic

, I get queried like this all the time — in person, via email, and through social media direct messages. Fortunately, I enjoy spouting off my opinions.

After offering some solicited

Montreal resto recommendation

s to my editor last week, she suggested that I make myself available in real time as a virtual concierge to the Citizen’s readers.

Ask me anything in comment section

On Tuesday, Sept. 23, for an hour, starting at noon, I’ll do just that. Come back to this post and drop your question into the comment section. I’ll get right back to you with my recommendations.

Not sure what to ask? There’s no such thing as a silly question, as they say. Here are some more examples from my email box.

“My wife and I have eaten at most Italian places here in Ottawa. Any suggestions for a place that you might recommend that maybe we don’t know about or haven’t heard about?”

“I have guests visiting from Vancouver who love authentic Chinese food, Cantonese style. Local friends suggested Royal Treasures, Jadeland, Cafe Orient and Ben Ben. Which one would you pick?”

“Any recommendations for smoked meat sandwiches?”

Pop back here next Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. and hit me with your questions. I’ll be only too glad to try to answer.
