TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index was up more than 150 points, helped by gains in base metal and financial stocks, while U.S. markets also rose.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 151.19 points at 29,604.72.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 14.26 points at 46,156.68. The S&P 500 index was up 2.36 points at 6,634.32, while the Nasdaq composite was up 47.20 points at 22,517.93.
The Canadian dollar traded for 72.59 cents US compared with 72.48 cents US on Thursday.
The November crude oil contract was down 59 cents US at US$62.67 per barrel.
The December gold contract was up US$21.90 at US$3,700.20 an ounce.
