Toyota is recalling more than 70,000 vehicles in Canada over a safety issue related to their display panels.
A software problem may cause the combination meter in the instrument panel to not display when the vehicle is started in certain models, Transport Canada said in a recall notice updated Thursday.
As a result, drivers may not see the speedometer, fuel gauge, warning lights, and malfunction indicators, which would increase the risk of a crash.
Only vehicles featuring a 12.3-inch display are affected. The affected cars include several Lexus models as well as the Toyota RAV4, Highlander, Tacoma, and GR Corolla.
Toyota said 70,480 vehicles are impacted by the issue, according to a release from the company on Sept. 11.
Transport Canada said Toyota will inform owners by mail and advise them to take affected cars into a dealership to update the combination meter software.
The dealer will also inspect and may replace the combination meter in some models.
