The Ottawa Police Service has asked for public help in identifying the person or persons responsible for the fatal stabbing of a 66-year-old Metcalfe man last year.
Roger “Dale” Lusk was stabbed around 11 a.m. on Sept. 23, 2024, after leaving his home on Ira Morgan Way in Metcalfe in his pickup truck.
A short distance from his home, Lusk pulled over and interacted with a light grey or silver sedan, police said in a news release on Tuesday.
“During this interaction, the front passenger of the sedan entered Mr. Lusk’s vehicle and attacked him, stabbing him before fleeing the scene in the same sedan,” Sgt. Chris O’Brien, the lead investigator in the case, said in the release.
A neighbour discovered Lusk in critical condition shortly after the stabbing and called 911. Lusk was rushed to The Ottawa Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Oct. 5, 2024. The Ottawa Police Service Homicide Unit then took over the investigation.
Police asked members of the public to closely examine the
vehicle captured in video they released on their website Tuesday
. Surveillance video and images of the suspect vehicle were also released last year in an effort to generate tips.
“If you recognize this vehicle or have any information about the individuals involved, please come forward,” O’Brien said.
“We believe there were at least two people in the vehicle during the attack — the offender and the driver — and we are confident that others in the community may have information that could assist in bringing justice for Mr. Lusk and his family.”
The stabbing was a “targeted and violent attack,” O’Brien said.
“Mr. Lusk was a devoted father and husband. His family is devastated, and they deserve answers. Help bring justice for Roger Dale Lusk. Help his family find peace.”
In a statement, the family pleaded with anyone with information about the homicide or the individuals responsible to come forward, and added that no piece of information was too small.
The family said Lusk’s death was a sudden and senseless death that left a void that could never be filled.
“Dale was a man who would do anything for his family. He was kind, hardworking, and always put others before himself,” the family’s statement said.
“We cannot begin to express how much he meant to us, and we are devastated by the thought that someone could take him from us so violently. ”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ottawa Police Service tip line at 613-236-1222, extension 5477.
