A 26-year-old man from the Rideau Lakes area has been charged with attempted murder of a child and a long list of other offences following an intimate partner violence and child abuse investigation, the Ontario Provincial Police said Saturday.
A news release said officers with the Leeds County detachment of the OPP and its crime unit began the investigation around 9 a.m. on Sept. 26. The 26-year-old, who was not identified, was subsequently arrested and charged with:
- Attempt to commit murder;
- Sexual assault on a person under 16 causing bodily harm
- Sexual interference
- Two counts of forcible confinement
- Two counts of assault with a weapon
- Two counts of assault causing bodily harm (choke, suffocate or strangle)
- Two counts of assault
- Two counts of uttering threats (causing death or bodily harm)
- Intimidation — use or threatened use of violence
The man remained in custody Saturday and was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville at a later date, the OPP release added.
Rideau Lakes is a bit more than 100 kilometres southwest of Ottawa.
