TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index lost more than 100 points in late-morning trading, weighed down by losses in the energy and base metal sectors, while U.S. stock markets also fell.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 124.32 points at 29,847.59.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 184.05 points at 46,132.02. The S&P 500 index was down 14.84 points at 6,646.37, while the Nasdaq composite was down 50.40 points at 22,540.75.
The Canadian dollar traded for 71.81 cents US compared with 71.83 cents US on Monday.
The November crude oil contract was down US$1.10 at US$62.35 per barrel.
The December gold contract was up US$14.80 at US$3,870.00 an ounce.
