One person was in custody after two fires broke out in Cardinal early Tuesday morning.
The OPP and the Leeds and Grenville Fire Department were on the scene of house fire that began at about 4 a.m. on Adelaide Street in the township of Edwardsburgh Cardinal, police said in a social media post at about 8:30 a.m.
The township, in a news release Tuesday, said the fire was “fully involved” when crews arrived at the location. It said a smaller fire started shortly afterward at the Cardinal Fire Station and was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
A township vehicle was stolen during the incident at the fire station, but was later recovered, the township added.
One male was in custody after he fled the scene at the fire station and then crashed into another car, causing minor injuries to the other driver, police said.
The township stated it had requested the assistance of the Ontario Fire Marshal to investigate the cause of the fires, while police said their investigation continues.
Cardinal is located about 80 km south of Ottawa.
