The National Capital Commission’s “flagship” waterfront properties seem to have found their audience, with more than one million total visits to
Kìwekì Point, NCC River House, the Dow’s Lake recreational dock and the buffed-up Westboro beach.
“The overwhelmingly positive public response is a clear indication of interest and appreciation for vibrant world-class destinations that showcase the National Capital Region’s rich natural beauty and cultural heritage,” the agency said in a social media release.

The NCC noted recent investments in the facilities in
recent years, have been well received by both tourists and area residents.
“The NCC has introduced a range of unique experiences that create dynamic spaces for recreation and connection along the Capital’s shorelines.” the agency said in a release.

“The NCC is committed to creating vibrant and beautiful destinations that connect people with our capital’s shorelines and waterways,” NCC Chairman Tobi Nussbaum is quoted as saying.

“The overwhelmingly positive public response to our summer initiatives fuels our motivation and our imagination.”
Meanwhile, there will also be increased focus on “
growing its offerings as a winter capital.”
For example, the new Westboro Beach pavilion last week opened a four-season restaurant. The resto is to be accessible by skis, via the groomed Kìchì Sìbì Winter Trail. A waterfront sauna operation is planned for NCC River House, “replete with cold plunge for the brave.”
