MONCTON – A former provincial cabinet minister is the first candidate in the race to become leader of New Brunswick’s Progressive Conservative party.
Daniel Allain announced his candidacy today at an event in Moncton, N.B.
Allain returns to the political arena saying he wants to rebuild the party’s organization in the wake of its election defeat in October 2024.
He was dropped from cabinet in 2023 by former premier Blaine Higgs for signing a letter expressing “extreme disappointment” following changes to the province’s policy on gender identity and sexual orientation in schools.
Allain, who didn’t run in the last provincial election, describes himself as fiscally conservative and socially progressive.
The Progressive Conservatives will elect a new provincial leader in October 2026.
