Municipal election procedures are returning to normal in Gatineau Sunday following a breakdown of voting equipment, election officials say.
In addition, the apparently unrelated death of a pool worker added to the confusion.
The computer problems began to act up Sunday morning, but the voters were allowed to cast their ballots.
However, some voting polls encountered problem working effectively with some of the computers offline.
Electoral officer Véronique Denis decided to extend voting hours to 8:30 p.m. due to the confusion.
The breakdown prompted electoral officials to return to tabulating votes by hand.
The death of the election worker did not appear related to the computer problems but an investigation is underway.
The office said they expect more information this evening.
The polling station located at the Belles-Rives school, in the Rivière-Blanche district, had to open 30 minutes late due to the death of an election office employee.
The disruption affected about 60 polling stations from the 19 electoral districts will therefore be open until 8:30 p.m. on Sunday evening.
