The second supermoon of the year will rise over Toronto on Tuesday night with visibility also Wednesday morning— and two Toronto-based astrologers are offering their take on what this moon might mean for you.
The moon will begin to appear over Toronto’s eastern horizon just after 5:10 p.m. Tuesday, shortly after sunset, but it will look largest and brightest as it climbs higher in the sky throughout early evening.
Peak illumination — when the moon is fullest — will happen at 4:02 p.m. If you’re looking for the best view, you may want to wait until a little after the sun sets, when it looks the largest near the horizon.
As for tonight’s forecast, Environment Canada is calling for partly cloudy skies with a chance of cloud cover thickening overnight. That means though wispy clouds may briefly obscure the view the moon should be visible at times.
This is the second of three supermoons set to appear before the end of the year, when the moon reaches the closest point to Earth in its orbit and appears larger and brighter in the sky.
While the science speaks to the moon’s proximity, astrologers point to how the stars, though thousands of kilometres away, are intimately connected to how we feel here on earth.
What to Expect
Sara Elise is a Toronto-based astrologer who left a career in corporate marketing to grow what she calls her “therapeutic evolutionary” astrology practice.
She said this full super moon in Taurus is “particularly intense.” Taurus is an astrological sign associated with stability, simplicity and embodiment — so if you’re a Taurus, it offers some grounding that will anchor you within the emotional intensity this moon will also bring. It will also have an impact on Scorpios, a water sign, because they’re opposite of Taurus, an earth sign.
The Taurus full moon is an invitation to see past relationship patterns clearly — and to recognize how they may not be aligned with a person’s true values. During this time, people may recognize how they’ve given themselves away, sold themselves short, or prioritized harmony over authenticity. Elise said time during this moon is all about less self-doubt, and for deeper trust dedicated to a sense of inner stability and self-worth.
“We may feel strong inner resolve and grounded sensuality that can help us move past old limitations,” said Elise.
Signs to watch
Each astrological sign represents a different element, and may be affected a little differently— but Julie Simmons, a Toronto-based astrologer who has practiced for over fifty years, said these are the signs that will be impacted the most by this full moon.
Scorpios— a water sign— may feel tension between holding on and letting go, as the Taurus full moon stirs emotional intensity and forces decisions about what to keep and what to release.
Leos — a fire sign — might feel challenged by the push-pull of stability versus desire for excitement, as Taurus energy emphasizes routine and practical concerns over impulsive action.
Air sign Aquarians could feel constrained or frustrated, since the full moon highlights areas of inflexibility and puts pressure on them to slow down and focus on tangible, earthly matters.
Other signs, like Pisces or Aries, may not be as affected, though they’ll have to wait to see if the next supermoon has something in store for them.
Regardless of your sign, Simmons said a good activity for this time would be to sort your “stuff”— get your winter clothes out, get rid of what you don’t need, and think about who might be able to use what you can’t use.
“This full moon is a good time to save energy, enjoy pleasure, and share knowledge,” said Simmons. “While knowing that, it won’t last.”
