HALIFAX – An NDP member of the Nova Scotia legislature says some patients at a hospital waited more than 70 hours in the emergency room before they were admitted.
In a letter to the health minister, Paul Wozney says the ER team at the Cobequid Community Health Centre are gravely concerned about the standards of care.
Wozney says a health-care worker telephoned him in the middle of a shift, calling it the worst day on record at the Halifax-area health centre.
On Tuesday, 18 emergency room beds were filled by patients waiting to be admitted to hospital, many of whom were treated for cardiac issues, strokes, or major bone breaks.
In 2022, the provincial government committed to expanding care at the health centre, but Wozney says Health Minister Michelle Thompson says the expansion is still in the planning stage.
Thompson was not immediately available for comment.
