TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index was up more than 100 points in late-morning trading, helped higher by strength in the energy and base metal sectors, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 101.04 points at 31,150.32.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 219.83 points at 47,694.29. The S&P 500 index was up 6.60 points at 6,835.97, while the Nasdaq composite was down 24.94 points at 23,388.73.
The Canadian dollar traded for 71.72 cents US compared with 71.50 cents US on Tuesday.
The January crude oil contract was up 68 cents US at US$59.32 per barrel.
The February gold contract was up US$28.70 at US$4,249.50 an ounce.
