TORONTO – Canada’s main stock index was down in late-morning trading weighed down by losses in the technology sector, while U.S. stock markets climbed higher.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 70.89 points at 31,406.68.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 132.31 points at 47,983.25. The S&P 500 index was up 17.24 points at 6,874.36, while the Nasdaq composite was up 49.42 points at 23,554.56.
The Canadian dollar traded for 72.12 cents US compared with 71.67 cents US on Thursday.
The January crude oil contract was up 66 cents US at US$60.33 per barrel.
The February gold contract was up US$23.70 at US$4,266.70 an ounce.
