The Ontario Provincial Police have cautioned residents of Smiths Falls and area Sunday to be alert following a possible cougar sighting on Ponnamalie Road.
Lanark OPP detachment said on social media at about noon that families with small children or pets should be extra vigilant if they are going outside.
Poonamalie Road is on the town’s west side.
Police said the Ministry of Natural Resources has been contacted and is monitoring the situation.
“Please do not approach the cougar, keep safe distance, and exercise caution outdoors,” police said on social media.
Residents were urged to call 911 or 1-888-310-1122 in case of emergency.
