Four locations of The Beer Store will close in January, including three in the Toronto area.
The closures are the result of “evolving operations” to meet customers’ changing needs, the company said in a Wednesday news release.
On Jan. 11, three stores will close — the locations at 15 Hops Dr. in Haliburton, Ont., 17250 Hwy. 27 in Schomberg, Ont. (in York Region), and 3950 Brock St. N. in Whitby.
A week later, the retailer at 150 Midtown Dr. in Oshawa will also close, the company said.
The Beer Store acknowledged the closures’ negative impacts on customers and employees in its news release, calling it a “difficult decision.”
The company will make “all efforts” to support employees as the locations close their doors, VP of retail Ozzie Ahmed said.
The announcement comes as part of a long list of locations shuttered this year, with more than 60 stores closing their doors, including a number in the GTA.
The closures follow the Doug Ford government’s decision to let corner stores sell alcohol last year and a $225-million agreement between The Beer Store and the province to help stabilize the company through the changes.
