Toronto Raptors stars Scottie Barnes and Jamal Shead were drafted for a different kind of assignment on Friday, joining the National Ballet of Canada’s annual production of “The Nutcracker.”
Celebrity guests joining the production to play cannon dolls is a tradition that dates back more than six decades. Barnes and Shead traded in their usual jerseys for colourful costumes adorned with pom-poms, following in the footsteps of previous Raptors players Kyle Lowry and Matt Thomas.
In a previous December show, Toronto Star reporters Joshua Chong and Victoria Gibson also joined the ranks of cannon doll guest stars that include Mayor Olivia Chow and Canadian musicians and actors.
Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews from the Toronto Maple Leafs also tested their stage talents as cannon dolls back in 2018.
