Two residents have been displaced following a fire on Boxing Day at a single-family home in Carp.

Ottawa Fire Services was called at about 8:17 p.m. by a resident reporting a house fire in the 2000 block of Carp Road. The caller said they had returned home to find flames coming from the residence.

Firefighters were met with heavy smoke and flames visible from the front of the residence, with smoke venting from all four sides.

The two residents had escaped and confirmed that no one else was inside.

Firefighters advanced a hose line through the front door, quickly knocking down a significant amount of fire on the main floor. Crews then advanced to the second floor, where they encountered high heat conditions and visible flames.

Firefighters extinguished the fire on the second floor and conducted thorough searches of the home, confirming no other occupants were inside the residence.

The fire was declared under control shortly after 9 p.m.

An Ottawa Fire Services investigator was dispatched to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
