A 43-year-old Gatineau resident is facing impaired driving and drug charges following a single-vehicle collision early Saturday on Highway 417 near March Road.
Just after midnight, OPP officers responded to a vehicle in a ditch, and during the traffic stop they began to suspect the driver of being impaired by alcohol, a news release stated.
After roadside testing, police took the individual to the Ottawa detachment for further testing.
Police said further investigation found that the driver was transporting about seven kilograms of cannabis, drug paraphernalia, cash and trafficking-related items. The estimated value of the seizure was $60,000, they said.
Truong Nguyen has been charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs; operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus); possession for the purpose of distributing; possession over of over 30g dried cannabis in a public place; and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
Nguyen’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days, police said, with Nguyen scheduled to appear an Ottawa courtroom at a later date.
