Just before 2:30 p.m., officers from the Leeds County OPP detachment responded after reports that a two-vehicle collision had occurred, police said in a news release.
The two drivers, a 66-year-old woman from Smiths Falls and a 66-year-old man from Markham, Ont., were pronounced dead at the scene while the only passenger involved in the crash suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
No other details were released about the collision that took place near New Dublin Road, a few kilometres northwest of Brockville.
The highway remained closed Wednesday night as the Leeds detachment’s investigation continued with assistance from the OPP East Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement team, including the OPP’s technical collision investigators and a collision reconstructionist.
County Road 29 was closed between Burnbrae Road and Murray Road, the OPP said in a social media post.
Anyone with information that could help in the investigation, such as dashcam footage, was asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and refer to incident E251748330.
