Firefighters were sent to St. Patrick Street on Sunday afternoon after Ottawa Fire Services received a 911 call about a light haze in an apartment building.
The fire department took the call at 12:50 p.m., and after arriving at the scene in the 600 block of St. Patrick crews confirmed there was a haze in the building and also high levels of carbon monoxide throughout it.
An OC Transpo bus was also sent to the location to shelter residents who had to vacate the building.
Firefighters conducted two full searches of the building to make sure no one remained inside.
The fire was declared under control by 3:17 p.m.
Victim Services and a fire services investigator were dispatched to the scene.
