Queensway Carleton serves 500,000 people every year, Falconer said, and has an emergency department that was built for 63,000 annual visits, but now serves around 83,000 patients. The hospital, he said, desperately needs to expand its emergency department and to add 90 patient beds. It is awaiting a response from the provincial government to its request for money to expand.
