Ottawa storm cleanup continues, schools buses return, but more flurries forecast

Schools buses are back on the road and the streets of the capital are gradually clearing up following winter’s biggest snow storm of the year.

While buses are back in service in Ottawa, they were cancelled once again outside the city. Officials cautioned that slippery streets may lead to delays.

Schools remained open for the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario and the Upper Canada District School Board, but Student Transportation of Eastern Ontario said buses were not running for a second day because of the snow.

About 25 cm of snow has fallen since Thursday morning, and another two to four cm are expected through the evening. Flurries are also forecast through the weekend.

The City of Ottawa lifted its overnight parking ban at 7 a.m.

Friday begins with bright sunshine, but clouds are expected to roll in this afternoon.

The forecast high is a chilly -11 C, with the wind making it feel like -27 Friday morning and -14 in the afternoon.

Snow is expected to begin this evening, with brisk winds up to 15 km/h creating wind chill effect of -19.

Saturday’s looking cloudy, but warmish with more snow flurries in the picture in the afternoon and evening. The high is expected to be -1 C, but the wind will make is feel colder.

Sunday’s looking like a mix of sun and cloud with 40-per-cent chance of flurries. The high is expected to be -4 C. More clouds are expected Sunday night, with a 60-per-cent chance of flurries and a low of -12.
