A Manotick business remains closed for the foreseeable future after a minivan crashed into the storefront at the height of Thursday’s snow storm.

Firefighters were called shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday following a two-vehicle crash on Manotick Main Street that sent the minivan careening into the front of a century building that houses the Green Spirit Rising shop on the ground floow and residential space above.

The business was closed due to the storm.

“The minivan caused significant damage to the building’s façade, pushing part of the front wall inward and compromising the structure,” firefighters said in a post on X.

Ottawa Fire Services’ specialized structural collapse team was dispatched.

The teams cleared the inside of the shop to permit the installation of emergency shoring. The post system allowed the transfer of the weight load from the upper floor safely to the ground.

Ottawa firefighters work to shore up interior of Manotick building struck by vehicle during Thursday’s blizzard.

Once the structure was stabilized, the vehicle was safely removed. Thanks to the rapid and effective shoring operations, the second-floor residential tenants were not displaced.

Crews cleared the scene at about 4:25 p.m.

There were no injuries.

“Just in case you missed the news. For now, we are closed while we navigate this difficult situation. Thanks for your patience and support,” Green Spirit Rising posted on its Facebook site.
