Two men were taken to hospital, one in critical condition, following a fire Sunday evening at a multi-unit residential low-rise on Armstrong Street.
Ottawa Fire Services took multiple 911 calls at 6 p.m. about the fire in the 60 block of Armstrong, with those calling reporting that flames were coming from a window.
After arriving at the scene in the Kitchissippi ward, crews confirmed that flames and smoke were visible, and additional resources were dispatched to the location.
A rescue was made at 6:10 p.m., the fire service said in a news release, and the blaze was declared under control by 6:26 p.m.
An Ottawa Paramedic Service spokesperson said the man in critical condition was transported to hospital at about 6:30 p.m. and that a second man was moved to hospital about an hour later in stable condition. No details were provided on the nature of their injuries.
After bringing the fire under control, firefighters used high-pressurized fans to clear residual smoke from the building.
Victim Services was sent to the scene and an OC Transpo bus was also brought to the location to provide shelter for residents.
An Ottawa Fire Services investigator attended the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
