Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit has cleared Ottawa police of blame after a woman’s arm was broken in an arrest last September.
In a report sent via social media, the SIU noted police had been called to a reported assault at a residence in the area of Queen Mary Street and the Vanier Parkway.
The SIU reported the woman, 55, was arrested for assault, handcuffed and escorted down a flight of stairs to the main level.
“On the way, down the woman lost her footing and fell, breaking her right arm in the process,” the SIU report said.
Paramedics transported the woman to hospital.
SIU director Joseph Martino “found no evidence the officers caused her fall,” the report stated.
“She simply lost her footing in her intoxicated state,” the report added.
