Ottawa police have arrested a man and a woman in connection with a series of commercial break-and-enter robberies in the ByWard Market earlier this month.

In a release, the Ottawa Police Service said the robberies began on Jan. 20.

“Break and enter investigators identified a clear pattern of overnight break-ins affecting multiple businesses in the area,” the release said.

“On Jan. 28, frontline officers conducting proactive patrols in the Market observed suspicious activity and quickly coordinated with investigators.”

The collaboration led to the identification and arrest of the suspects.

Police said a 39-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman face several charges including break-and-enter, possession of break-in tools, breach of release orders, wearing a disguise and mischief.

Acting Staff Sergeant Sammie Brennan of the Robbery and Break and Enter Unit said the teamwork “reflects our ongoing commitment to community safety and to supporting the businesses and residents of the ByWard Market.”

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information that could assist should contact the OPS Break and Enter Unit at 613-236-1222, extension 4533.
