An OPP officer escaped injury after a vehicle struck the back of their cruiser while they were attending to a collision on Highway 417 in Ottawa on Sunday.

The officer was at the scene of the first collision, on the 417 westbound near Metcalfe Street, just before 2:30 a.m. when they noticed a vehicle moving toward the location at a high rate of speed, the OPP said in a news release Monday.

The officer and an individual from the first collision managed to jump into the cruiser before it was struck by the oncoming vehicle, and no one was injured.

An Ottawa teenager is facing charges after an OPP cruiser at the scene of a collision on Highway 417 was struck from behind.

Police suspected the driver of the vehicle that hit the OPP cruiser was under the influence of alcohol, and an Ottawa teenager is now facing several charges.

The licence of the accused was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He is to appear in an Ottawa courtroom at a later date.
