Ottawa firefighters made quick work Wednesday morning of a smoky blaze in the Banff-Ledbury neighbourhood in Ottawa’s south end.
It was the third fire in less than 24 hours.
Ottawa Fire Services communications received several 911 calls at around 9:47 a.m. reporting black smoke billowing from a two-storey, middle-unit townhome in the 1200 block of Ledbury Avenue.
Callers reported that the “whole kitchen was on fire,” but indicated that all residents appeared to have safely escaped, OFS said in a release.
River ward Coun. Riley Brockington said in a social message on Bluesky that the residence was part of the Banff-Ledbury Ottawa Community Housing community.
The blaze was contained to the single home and no injuries were reported.
Firefighters arrived on scene four minutes after being dispatched and confirmed smoke and flames coming from the front of the home. They began a “fast attack,” advancing a hose line into the home. Other crews verified all occupants had safely evacuated and verified flames had not reached attic spaces.
By 10:05, all visible flames on the first floor were knocked down.
The fire was declared under control at 10:25 a.m. High-pressure fans were used to remove residual smoke from the home.
Victim services was dispatched to assist as one adult and two children were displaced due to the fire.
One truck remained on the scene to monitor for any flare-ups.
An Ottawa Fire Services investigator was dispatched to determine the cause of the fire.
