KINGSEY FALLS – Cascades Inc. says it is discontinuing its honeycomb paperboard and partition packaging product segments, resulting in the closure of three plants.
The plants are located in Saint-Cesaire, Que., Berthierville Que. and York, Pa., in the U.S.
Cascades says the closure of the Berthierville plant is effective immediately and impacts 52 employees, while operations at the Saint-Cesaire plant will cease no later than April 17, with 25 employees impacted.
Meanwhile, the York plant will be closed no later than Feb. 19 with 37 employees impacted.
Cascades CEO Hugues Simon says focusing the company’s assets on strategic markets is vital to achieving its objectives around profitability.
Last month, Cascades agreed to sell a packaging plant to Crown Paper Group in a deal worth $65.5 million.
