A Sharbot Lake man faces a list of firearms related charges following a lengthy Ontario Provincial Police investigation.

In a release, police said a person was arrested in late January following a firearms related incident. The man remains in custody.

The force noted in the release that the OPP East Region Community Street Crime Unit had begun an investigation earlier in the winter “into allegations regarding firearms.”

On Tuesday, as a result of the continuing investigation, street crime officers with the other members of Frontenac OPP detachment executed a search warrant at a residence on Wagner Road in Sharbot Lake.

“Officers seized several firearms, two of which were loaded, as well as a large number of unidentified capsules,” police said.

Among the list of charges have been against the 35-year-old suspect, are four counts each of careless storage of a firearm and knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, and trafficking in firearms.

“These charges are in addition to those laid in connection with the earlier incident,” police said.

“The identity of the accused is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim in the earlier incident.”

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario court of justice on Feb. 13.

Sharbot Lake is about 125 km southwest of Ottawa.
