An officer with the Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police was on watch for speeders on Highway 401 near Morrisburg recently when a vehicle flashed by, heading east, at 239 km/h in the 110 km/h zone.
When police caught up, they escorted the vehicle off the highway.
The driver was charged with stunt driving, the vehicle was impounded for 14 days and his driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days in Ontario.
The driver, a resident of Nova Scotia, said he had been in a hurry to get home and regretted speeding. Now he faces a scheduled appearance in court.
“There is no excuse for speeds like these,” OPP said sternly in a post on social media on Friday.
